Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 21, 2026
Makersoft LLC ("we", "us", or "our") builds desktop applications for macOS, including MakerZones and WinMode. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
What Data We Collect
We collect minimal data, and only what is necessary to operate our software licensing system.
Device Identifier
When you activate a Pro license, we collect your device's hardware UUID. This identifier is used solely to bind your license to your devices (up to 3) and prevent unauthorized sharing. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
Email Address (Optional)
If you purchase a license directly from us, you may optionally provide an email address for license delivery and order receipts. We do not require an email to use the free version of any Makersoft app.
License Keys and Referral Codes
We store license keys and referral codes to manage your license entitlements and any referral rewards.
Update Checks
Our apps periodically check for new versions. These requests include your app version, macOS version, an anonymous device hash, and Pro status. This data is used to understand how many people use our apps and which versions are active. No personally identifiable information is sent. You can disable update checks in the app settings.
macOS Permissions
Our apps request specific macOS permissions to function. Here is exactly what each permission is used for and how your data is handled.
Accessibility
Both MakerZones and WinMode require Accessibility permission. MakerZones uses it to detect window positions and move/resize windows into zones. WinMode uses it to remap keyboard shortcuts, detect window titles for the taskbar preview, and perform window actions (activate, close, minimize). All Accessibility data is processed locally in real time. No window titles, positions, or application usage data is recorded, stored, or transmitted.
Screen Recording (WinMode — Optional)
WinMode's taskbar window preview feature can optionally show live thumbnail screenshots of your open windows, similar to the Windows 11 taskbar. This requires Screen Recording permission. Screenshots are held only in memory for display purposes and are never saved to disk, logged, or transmitted to any server. The in-memory cache is cleared when the feature is disabled or the app quits. This permission is entirely optional — the taskbar preview works without it, showing app icons and window titles instead of screenshots.
What We Do NOT Collect
- No behavioral analytics, screen recording, or third-party tracking SDKs
- No window content, file names, or browsing activity
- No keystrokes or keyboard input (WinMode remaps keys locally, nothing is transmitted)
- No personal information beyond what you voluntarily provide
- No location data
Cookies and Website Tracking
This website does not use analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party tracking services. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any similar tools. We may use essential cookies strictly necessary for website functionality (such as session management), but no tracking or advertising cookies are used.
How We Use Your Data
The data we collect is used exclusively for:
- Activating and validating your software license
- Delivering license keys and order receipts via email (if provided)
- Processing referral rewards
- Responding to support requests
- Checking for updates and understanding aggregate app usage
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We may share data with payment processors (such as Apple for App Store purchases) solely to process your transaction.
Data Storage and Security
Your app settings, layouts, and preferences are stored locally on your Mac. License validation data is stored securely on our servers with industry-standard encryption. We retain your license data for as long as your license is active.
Your Rights (GDPR and CCPA)
Regardless of where you are located, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification You can request correction of any inaccurate data.
- Deletion You can request deletion of your personal data. Note that deleting license data will deactivate your license.
- Portability You can request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection You can object to the processing of your data at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Our apps and services are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of our apps after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
